Medical doctor
Brenda is a licenced medical doctor who has worked in clinical medicine and patient care for the Ministry of Public Health Cameroon at its various urban and rural hospitals. She has over 10 years of experience in civic engagement working with a series of NGOs to organise health talks and provide free basic health services through medical missions in underserved areas. She is also an Instructor of Advanced-Life-Support in Obstetrics (ALSO), trained by the American Academy of Family Physicians, who liaises with fellow instructors to coordinate several local and national seminars and workshops with doctors, midwives, and nurses in attendance to address challenges surrounding child and maternal deaths and to equip them in efficacious management of obstetrical emergencies.
She recently graduated from the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom as an International Health and Tropical Medicine specialist. She got the opportunity to work on research with the Evidence to Policy and Impact Unit of the Research for Health Department, WHO – Geneva, Switzerland Headquarters [Funding mechanisms for mHealth interventions and the place of mHealth in health financing systems for maternal health in Sub-Saharan Africa: A Scoping Review].
She is very keen on research and innovative solutions for alleviating health conditions in developing and developed countries and has gotten to publish research in the American Journal of Internal Medicine (DOI: 10.11648/j.ajim.20180606.14).
Her passion for research and innovation especially in maternal and perinatal health contexts, as well as her keen interest in patient care and comfort, have led to the Mothers Matter Initiative, an educational app she has been working on with a team of Oxford University peers and tutors, which will provide accessible and affordable on and offline training to maternity care teams to assist them in handling obstetric emergencies. The initiative was pitched to funders recently in Cumberland, UK and at the Oxford Union. It won the funds that will assist in the app start-up process.
